Geese at Savernake Park, Bracknell

Geese at Savernake Park, Bracknell

My wife, Rachel and I walked out to our local pond in Savernake park just before breakfast time. We wanted to squeeze in a quick walk before we started the day working from home. The sun was out after more than a week of wet weather and the lovely sights and sounds of late spring transitioning to early summer filled the air. Many Canada geese are local to Savernake pond and we were particularly intrigued by a pair of them that were waddling along with their two young goslings.

As we stopped to take a closer look at them, one of the geese, presumably the mother, started arching her neck, readying herself to spread out her wings and flap them at us defiantly. She started honking aggressively, as if to say, "Step any closer and I'll make sure you leave with a few broken parts!" Like many animals, their strong parenting drive was without question.

This reminds me of God's rhetorical question and promise to his children. "Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never." (Isaiah 49:15 The Message Bible)

Life can be tough… really really tough. No matter what we may go through, let’s remember that God won't abandon us. You’re His and He’s going through it with you. He's got you covered, wrapped up in His love.

He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armour and protection.
(Psalm 91:4 New Living Translation)
