Purpose Driven Life - Day 4 - Made to Last Forever

Reading through day 4 in the notes I had one of those "that's the opposite of what I've preached" moments of panic! You may have heard me refer to the line from a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song which says "This life is not a dress rehearsal" as I've encouraged us to make the most we can of the life God has given us as we don't get another go at it. Well Rick Warren starts today's chapter by saying "life on earth is just the dress rehearsal". Fortunately on closer reading I realised I'm not a heretic but Rick is saying that we are living a dress rehearsal for an eternity spent with God, and we must live our lives in the light of eternity.

Rick's outline for day 4 is below.

Please be thinking about the week of prayer and fasting next week and be planning which nights you can make and what slots you can do in the 24 hours of prayer.

Simon.

p.s. On a less eternal note I'm not sure about Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager - seems a bit like a return to the past to me but time will tell. At least we might play some more exciting football.

This life is not all there is!

“God has…planted eternity in the human heart.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)

Life on earth is just the dress rehearsal before the real production. You will spend far more time on the other side of death—in eternity—than you will here. This life is preparation for the next.

You have an inborn instinct that longs for immortality. This is because God designed you, in his image, to live for eternity. Even though we know everyone eventually dies, death always seems unnatural and unfair. The reason we feel we should live forever is that God wired our brains with that desire!

Matthew Henry said, “It ought to be the business of every day to prepare for our final day.”
