Purpose Driven Life - Day 24 - Transformed By Truth

Two posts back to back as I'm at New Frontiers leaders prayer and fasting for the next two days and can't guarantee internet access (and I know how much you'd hate to miss a post!). We're meeting at KingsGate Community Church in Peterborough. It will be the first time I've been there, although Colin Boyle (our Director of the Creative Arts) visited the church in August whilst he was on Sabbatical, and Pete Moon who is one of our Pastors took a team there to visit the church last November. In some areas they're a few steps ahead of where we'd like to be so it will be interesting to visit them.

I'll be meeting Ben (Davies) at Prayer and fasting. He was in Exeter at the weekend preaching in a church there and then today and tomorrow is meeting with a number of senior church leaders in Lincolnshire. Let nobody be fooled into thinking Ben has retired! I'm travelling down there with Sean Green and our friends from Reading Family Church (check out the picture of Ben on their website!) and am really looking forward to spending time with Ben, Sean and some of the other New Frontiers leaders I'm getting to know.

I'll let you all know how it went when I get back.

Simon.

The truth transforms us!

Spiritual growth is the process of replacing lies with truth. Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 (NIV)

Sanctification requires revelation. The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to make us like the Son of God. To become like Jesus, we must fill our lives with his Word. The Bible says, “Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” 2 Timothy 3:17 (Msg)

Jesus called it “abiding.” He said, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine.” John 8:31 (NASB, 1978 Edition) In day-to-day living, abiding in God’s Word includes three activities. You must accept its authority. You must assimilate its truth. And you must apply its principles.

The best way to become a “doer of the Word” is to always write out an action step as a result of your reading or studying or reflecting on God’s Word. Develop the habit of writing down exactly what you intend to do. This action step should be personal (involving you), practical (something you can do), and provable (with a deadline to do it).

What has God already told you to do in his Word that you haven’t started doing yet? As D. L. Moody said, “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.”
